Trump announces a one -month delay in Canada, the Mexico Auto tariff
President Trump announced on Wednesday a one -month exemption on the definitions against Canada and Mexico for cars after a meeting with the three American auto companies.
Trump has talked with Ford, Granur Motors and Stelants leaders about the imposition of 25 percent of the tariff on all imports from Mexico and Canada on Tuesday.
After these discussions, Trump said in a statement read by the White House press secretary Caroline Levitt that the administration gives one -month exemption to the automotive manufacturers linked to the US Trade, Mexico and Cananga agreement (USMCA), which Trump signed during his first term.
The exemption will be applied to Ford, General Motors and Stellantis, as well as other companies that have production facilities in the three North American countries.
When asked if there were any other points to come, Levitte said that Trump was “open to listening to additional exemptions.”
The delay will end for one month in early April, when Trump pledged to impose a mutual tariff on all other countries that are placed on American goods.
On Tuesday, Trump imposed a 25 percent tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico, in addition to an additional 10 percent tariff on Chinese goods. He pointed to the frustration of the flow of fentianil to the United States, although the experts have noticed a relatively little entry into the country across the northern border.
The move sparked a protest from Canada, in particular, with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau describing Trump as “very stupid”. Canada and Mexico pledged retaliatory measures, which raised fears of a wider trade war.
Trump spoke with Trudeau on Wednesday, when he once again confirmed that Canada did not do enough to stop the flow of fentanel.
Wednesday’s amendment is the latest example of Trump’s upcoming introductory moves and begins, which leads to confusion between companies and foreign leaders about what can be expected. He has provided the change dates for the time of imposing definitions, and setting mysterious criteria for how countries avoid avoiding the definitions and definitions that they imposed after the truth.
