Germany: During the night remains slightly reduced

Previous data from the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) show that in May 2025, there were 47.5 million in the location of Germany. This is 2.6% compared to May last year. This decrease can be partially attributed to Witsun holidays, which take place next year in several federal states. While a foreign visitor remains slightly increasing, it generally reflects a broader trend of modest decreases over the first five months of 2025.

May 2025: Mixed trends in household and foreign stay

The domestic guests were approximately 40.0 million in May 2025, which noted 3.3% compared to the previous year. This decrease was probably influenced by St. Witzun, who moved from May 2024 to June 2025 in several regions. However, international guests demonstrated some stability, recording 7.6 million per night – 1.5% compared to May 2024. It seems that Germany continues to draw international travelers, despite these seasonal dispersion.

Performance (YTD)

From January to May 2025, 173.0 million outfits were reported in German premises. This is approximately 0.8% decreased from the record numbers observed in the same period of 2024. It seems that a small, general drop indicates the stabilization of demand for tourism after particularly strong performance in 2024, although some current fighting may occur on domestic trips.

Factors behind the decline

The terms of Witzun’s holidays probably had a significant impact on the decline in May; School breaks can often affect family travel plans. Other elements, such as a change in trips or even a common economy, can affect domestic tourism. On the other hand, international visitors continue to flock to culturally significant places, festivals and cities such as Berlin and Munich, helping to support the sector.

2025 Outlook

Although a slight immersion occurred, Germany still remains an important European tourist place, and an international visitor is undergoing some encouraging features. Moreover, events such as Christmas Markets and Oktoberfest are approaching, the industry expects it to be potentially bounce back. If the efforts can be strategically focused on attracting more international visitors and adapting to which changes in rest planning, it can really help stabilize and possibly increase overnight during the last part of 2025.

Germany’s tourist industry, experiencing what may just be a small failure, still proves its ability to adapt. It continues to balance the domestic and international requirements to maintain its position as the main journey.
