A former university student receives a settlement of $ 250,000 from the school on Cardi b social media after the lawsuit
A student who previously went to the University of Tennessee received a settlement of $ 250,000 after her school tried to expel her on a post on social media that contains words from the song Cardi B “WAP”.
The FIRE Rights and Expression Corporation (Fire) announced the settlement of Kimberly Diei, a former pharmacy student, on Wednesday in a lawsuit in which Diei claimed that the school violates its first rights to amend.
The College of Pharmacy at the UT Health Science Center began to achieve two investigation and expel Diei almost in 2021 for violating the “professional” standards that students agree to go to the program.
It was two posters on the social media that he put under fire on X, known as Twitter at the time of the accident.
He was one of the participants in Cardi B and Megan You Stallion, which included words from the explicit sexual song “WAP” and called for a remix of artists. Another post was a personal photo containing lyrics from Beyonce.
“UT Pharmacy School has learned an important lesson today,” Greg Gribel’s Fire Lawyer said. “There is nothing but professional about students who express the love of hip -hop and their gender on social media. Kim has proven that something has said a fire 25 years ago: The first amendment to students’ rights is protected by a voice outside the school, even if the college officials do not like what They say it.
Officials said the jobs were “sexual” and “vulgar”, but the Federal Appeal Court agreed to the fire that they were “clearly protected” through the first amendment.
When it was reached for the comment, UT said it was “the general practice of the school to refrain from commenting on legal issues.”
