Chef presses the White House on the conflict of musk in interests and morals
Senator Adam Chef pressure (California) on Monday to obtain information about Elon Musk’s compliance with conflicts of interests, ethics and reporting requirements, as technological billionaire leads a sweeping effort to reform the executive branch from the government efficiency department (Dog).
In a message to White House Chief of Staff, Suzy Wales, Chef noted that as a “private government employee”, Musk is subject to the federal criminal conflict system that prevents government employees from participating in issues that have a financial interest.
Chef wrote that Musk, who leads Dog to reduce trillion dollars from government financing, “maintains great financial interests in many private companies that benefit from federal government contracts.”
Tesla and Spacex have received at least $ 15.4 billion in government contracts over the past ten years, the New York Times reported in October.
However, Democrat in California wrote, “The master remains the compliance of Musk of conflict of federal interests and other relevant obligations unknown to Congress and the public.”
Chef pressed on Wales about the compliance of Musk of the law, or whether he had received a concession from the White House, which was disrupting him from the penalties under the statute. He also asked whether the CEO of Tesla and Spacex had completed the financial disclosure report.
When asked about the conflicting interests of Musk last week, White House press secretary Caroline Levit said that musk would excuse himself if any conflicts appear during his work in Dog.
“If Elon Musk coincides with conflict of interests with the contracts and financing that DOGE supervises, Elon will excuse himself from those contracts. Levitte said during a press conference:
Musk’s Doge has moved quickly in weeks since Trump took office to reshape the executive branch, in the first place by reaching the technology infrastructure of federal agencies.
It is worth noting that DOGE employees granted access to a sensitive federal payment system in the Treasury, which sparked a protest from the Democrats and the payment of many lawsuits.
The Musk Federal Judge and its employees prevented from reaching the system, which deals with 90 percent of federal payments, during the weekend.
The committee also moved to the dismantling of the United States Agency for International Development, as it seeks to put thousands of employees on leave. However, the federal judge temporarily prevented this step on Friday.
