Zelensky floats the unified European army: “It is time”
Ukrainian President Folodimir Zellinski suggested on Saturday that the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine – which is close to three years – shows the need for the European Union to create a unified army.
“I really think it is time. The armed forces in Europe should be created,” said Zelinski early Saturday, according to Associated Press.
“Three years of war have proven widely that we already have the basis for the United States of the United Nations,” he added. “Now, while we are fighting this war and laying the foundation for peace and security, we must build the armed forces in Europe.”
He strengthened his speech at the Munich Security Conference only pushing the Ukrainian leader for the largest military and economic support from his European Union counterparts, along with the United States, and he has constantly warned that other parts of Europe could be vulnerable to the efforts of the Kremlin’s expansion.
Zelinski, who met a day ago by Vice President Vice, also protested his recent conversation with President Trump during his statements.
Trump indicated earlier this week that he would soon meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to sign a peace agreement that would end the fighting that began to invade Russia to Ukraine in February 2022. He claims that his nation will not agree to any deals without Ukraine on the negotiating table.
While the president explained that the war -torn country will be included, the Ukrainian leader argued that Europe should also participate.
“Ukraine will never accept the deals that were made behind our backs without our participation, and the same rule must apply to all Europe,” Zelinski said, adding that “Trump did not mention that America needs Europe on the table.”
AP reported that General Keith Kelog, the Trump administration’s special envoy to Ukraine and Russia, excluded this possibility on his observations on Saturday.
“I am a realistic school. Keel said during an event hosted by Ukrainian heroes, adding later,” We need to guarantee Ukrainian sovereignty. “
He also suggested that Europe would be “decisive for this.”
Zelensky also pressed NATO to welcome Ukraine in the coalition, on the pretext that last year could stop the “hot stage” of the war. On Friday, he admitted that support for the country to join the coalition was hesitant, even before Trump returned to his post.
The comments follow the letter from Defense Minister Beit Higseth and Fase earlier this week, indicating that the possibility was unrealistic at this time. While Higseth later reduced his position, Trump’s moves to end the war have shook both critics and allies.
